THE PM KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING
Yesterday I tried to paint a picture showing a leader utterly lacking in leadership. I
still maintain this view, of course, but apparently it's a view that most people disagree
with. Judging by this article in
Svenska Dagbladet, Göran Persson's attempt to put all of the blame on his foreign minister
while taking none of it himself seems to be working.
The foreign minister's popularity rating has fallen a bit - and rightly so - while Mr
Persson has actually gained popularity throughout this. It's certainly true that most leaders
become more popular during a crisis, but the reason for this is generally that they take
command and appear active. Göran Persson has done nothing of this.
Admittedly the changes in popularity are small, and one shouldn't draw too many conclusions from
polls such as this one. But I'm still surprised.
This blog will now take a break until Saturday, as I'll be away for a couple of days. Expect a big
(well, for me at least) announcement then.
